This past Sunday we had a guest pastor in the pulpit. Dr. Oliver Phillips from the states. What an interesting person!
Dr. Phillips shared how he had come from a life of drugs and alcohol although he did not make this the focus of his message. In fact, he started by telling us his grandchildren were living with him and his wife-their ages, 7 and 2. My husband and I started to smile, then laugh as he related the antics of the 2 year old. We nodded knowingly.
Our 2 year old grandson had just left our home the day before after a week’s visit which rearranged every appointment and activity. Instead of Bible study we strolled along in Spring Bank Park and watched the ducks with Kyle, taking turns to lift him up so he could see properly. We watched this little bundle of energy tackle the steps on the play equipment and slide down the shoot with his mummy. We listened as he sang his version of, We All Live in a Yellow Submarine, with great gusto, and on several occasions and as he chased around the apartment or intently played with his toys.
Dr. Phillips took us back to remembering when. The purpose of telling us about his grandson was to remind us that in life we can’t, in fact, we mustn’t keep looking in the rear-view mirror of our lives, at the negatives, but rather we have to keep looking at the road ahead. Keep marching forward with Jesus!
An interesting thought, don’t you think?
