Countless numbers of undulating majestic hills, mountains and pastoral scenes had me clicking my camera as our bus rolled along into Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We were on a four day trip with the main purpose to have a “behind the scenes” tour of the Sights & Sounds theatre in Lancaster, and afterwards to see the show Jonah.
Sight & Sounds has been going strong for many years and has grown in technical expertise resulting in amazing biblical productions. During the tour my travelling companions, and I, learned that all the actors are Christians, no names are noted on the programs, since the focus is to give all the glory to Jesus.
Jonah’s role rotates, with three actors and several understudies ready to take over if need be.
The scene with Jonah in the belly of the big fish was spectacular, well sort of, there were a large number of fish slapping around in it-Yuck! Anyway I will not divulge all in case you decide to see it too.
The play definitely brought home Jonah’s weak points. He ran away from God, disobeyed, sulked, and judged the people of Nineveh. He decided God should not forgive such a wicked nation and he let God know his opinion on the whole matter.
I’m thinking it brought home to me some of my own weaknesses–Oh dear. But I’m thankful to have such a loving and forgiving heavenly Father, aren’t you?
