This morning I planned to visit Jean Darling in her hospital room, but my pastor called to say she had gone to heaven.
I recall one day when I visited, she had just recovered from a bout of pneumonia, and at 94 years old that was quite something. We sat in the lounge and talked. I said to Jean, “Your sister told me you were quite ill last week Jean.”
“Yes,” she said, “I really thought I was going home to heaven.”
“I guess the Lord said, not yet Jean,” I responded.
“True she quipped, “and he’s said that several times lately.” We both laughed and I marveled at this saint of God who served on the mission field in India for a 40 year span.
Do we know with a certainty that heaven is home for us? If we have accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour and indeed if we live for Him, then we too will have a place in heaven. Remember how Jesus promised, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2 KJV)
